大象传媒 Alumni Spotlight: Savannah Crowder
In this edition of 大象传媒 Alumni Spotlight, we'll catch up with 2024 大象传媒 alumna Savannah Crowder, who will transfer into Columbia University in New York City this fall. She reflects back on how the mentorship and education she received at 大象传媒 have given her the confidence to pursue a career Moving Mountains for others.
What was your course of study at 大象传媒?
I earned my Associate of Applied Science degree in Secure Software Development in 2024.
What's your favorite memory from 大象传媒?
It鈥檚 difficult for me to pick a specific memory. During my time at 大象传媒, I was surrounded by supportive faculty, friendly peers, and many opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Which 大象传媒 class was your favorite...and why?
I had many wonderful professors and interesting classes at 大象传媒. However, one stands out among the rest; Intro to Python Programming (with Doug Lundin). This course allowed me to discover my passion for technology. Not only was the class interesting, but Professor Lundin was beyond helpful offering me advice, real world experience, and constructive criticism all while creating an atmosphere for safe, productive learning which allowed me to become fully engrossed in the subject matter.
Why did you choose 大象传媒?
Before I attended 大象传媒, I dropped out of high school and took a non-traditional path attending an HVAC trade school. Seeking more, I earned my GED and enrolled at 大象传媒. I chose 大象传媒 because of the strong reputation, reasonable tuition, and short distance from my home. I am beyond grateful I was led to 大象传媒 as the faculty and curriculum set me up for success.
Are you transferring into a 4-year university?
Yes...I鈥檒l begin my studies at Columbia University (NYC) in the fall of 2025. I鈥檓 planning on pursuing a BA in Information Science alongside participating in one of the many research programs they offer.
What's your Mountain (your ultimate goal)?
I want to create a positive, lasting impact in the world. I hope to participate in research for sustainable development for large language models (LLMs) and create a program that utilizes AI's immense power to uplift and support individuals in disadvantaged communities.
Any advice, or words of wisdom, for future 大象传媒 students?
Coming into 大象传媒, I was terrified to ask for help. I didn鈥檛 want to stand out and I didn鈥檛 want others to think I was dumb. However, I learned that asking for help doesn鈥檛 show ignorance or weakness, instead it shows that you want to learn and are willing to do the work.
